Rebuilding the Trilix Bamboo Pavilion at Dutch Design Week 2024
We are thrilled to announce that the Dutch Bamboo Foundation, in partnership with studio akēka and Vinc Math Bamboo Consultanting, has been selected to rebuild the iconic Trilix Bamboo Pavilion at Dutch Design Week (DDW) 2024 in Eindhoven this fall. This is an incredible opportunity to showcase the versatility, strength, and beauty of bamboo as a sustainable building material, and we are honored to bring this vision to life in the heart of Ketelhuisplein.

WINTERSWIJK,NL - The Trilix Bamboo Pavilion, originally conceived as a symbol of innovation and sustainability, has an inspiring history. The first iteration was built in Uganda, demonstrating how bamboo can serve as a versatile and environmentally friendly building material in diverse contexts. The current version of The Trilix was selected to be built at the New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels in April, an initiative of the European Commission that highlights the intersection of art, culture, and sustainable innovation.
Now, at Dutch Design Week 2024, with roughly over 300,000 visitors, The Trilix will once again take center stage. This year’s reconstruction of the pavilion is not just a demonstration of bamboo’s potential but a statement of our commitment to promoting environmentally friendly materials in architecture and design.
A Collaborative Effort: Building with Purpose
The Dutch Bamboo Foundation, studio akēka, and Vinc Math Bamboo Consulting have once again joined forces to create a pavilion that not only celebrates design excellence but also highlights the importance of sustainable practices in the built environment. Our consortium brings together expertise in bamboo construction, innovative design, and sustainable consulting, ensuring that The Trilix Pavilion will stand as a beacon of ecological responsibility and creative ingenuity.
We are especially proud to be rebuilding the Trilix Pavilion at Ketelhuisplein, a bustling and vibrant location within the DDW landscape. This prime spot will allow us to engage with a wide audience of designers, architects, sustainability advocates, and the general public, sparking conversations about the future of building materials and the role bamboo can play in a circular economy.
Support from DDW and VPRO: A Shared Vision
We are grateful for the support from Dutch Design Week and the interest from VPRO tegenlicht to document part of the rebuilding process. Their backing underscores the growing recognition of bamboo as a material of the future, and we are excited to work with them to bring this project to fruition. The documentary by VPRO, set to air on NPO in early October, will cover building materials of the future, like bamboo, capturing the collaborative spirit and sustainable ethos that drive our work.
Call for Partners and Sponsors: Join Us in This Journey
While we have received invaluable support from DDW and interest from VPRO, bringing The Trilix Bamboo Pavilion to life requires additional resources. We are actively seeking partners and sponsors who share our vision for a sustainable future and are interested in supporting this initiative.
By partnering with us, you will have the opportunity to be part of a groundbreaking project that pushes the boundaries of sustainable design. Your support will help us cover the costs of materials, labor, and logistics, ensuring that The Trilix Pavilion is not just rebuilt but reimagined to inspire and educate.
Sponsors will receive prominent recognition throughout the event, including branding opportunities at the pavilion, and mentions in promotional materials. More importantly, your partnership will align your brand with a movement dedicated to sustainability, innovation, and the future of design.
Looking Forward to Dutch Design Week 2024
As we prepare for Dutch Design Week 2024, we are filled with excitement and anticipation. The Trilix Bamboo Pavilion will be more than just a structure; it will be a symbol of what can be achieved when creativity, sustainability, and collaboration come together.
We invite you to join us on this journey. Whether as a partner, sponsor, or supporter, your involvement will help make the Trilix Pavilion a reality and contribute to a more sustainable future. Together, we can build something truly extraordinary.
